RATTAN CHESTS/STORAGE
Take a look at our beautiful Rattan Chests/Storage.
Rattan is a climbing palm with over 600 species that grows in tropical regions of Asia and Africa. Rattan is very durable and resistant to splintering, it can be used as wood to make furniture, it accepts paints and stains like many other kinds of wood, so it is available in many colours, and it can be worked into many styles.
Rattan is a close relative of the palm tree. It is a type of a vine that rapidly grows in the jungle, it grows in the shape of a pole, and its diameter varies between one to three inches. Rattan is one of the strongest woods and possesses the ability to grow up to a height of one hundred feet. Rattan boasts a strong core and is therefore durable and hard to break. The outside skin of the rattan pole, which is the peel, is generally used as a flat weaving material.
In forests where rattan grows, its economic value can help protect forest land, by providing an alternative to loggers who forgo timber logging and harvest rattan canes instead. Rattan is much easier to harvest, requires simpler tools and is much easier to transport. It also grows much faster than most tropical wood. This makes it a potential tool in forest maintenance, since it provides a profitable crop that depends on rather than replaces trees.
